February 7, 2008 A report released in January by the Australian Safety and Compensation Council shows that workplace fatalities have increased by 16% since 2003-2004. This is an alarming statistic and a loss of life to be examined for prevention in the future. All employers should examine their OH&S systems and practices to ensure injuries and accidents are prevented. Workplace Health and Safety laws are onerous in their requirements and breach can result in devastating consequences for workers and their families and employers and their hip pockets. Unions do play a key role in monitoring and ensuring safety is at its highest - employers can be sure that activism in this area will increase. QMTLAW offers advice on workplace and occupational health & safety and also workplace health and safety assessments for workplaces.
